WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Pro Nails, a local nail salon, is facing a lawsuit seeking over $1 million in damages after a woman claimed that a pedicure at the salon led to the partial amputation of her leg.
The civil petition was filed in the 89th District Court on February 3, 2026, with the plaintiff alleging that the pedicure caused a severe infection that eventually required her leg to be amputated below the knee.
Details of the Lawsuit
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff visited Pro Nails on February 20, 2024, for a pedicure. Prior to the appointment, the woman had undergone a minor medical procedure to remove a hangnail from her left second toe.
Shortly after the pedicure, she began experiencing severe pain and was later admitted to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with an infection.
The lawsuit claims the infection escalated into gangrene, and despite aggressive medical intervention, the infection could not be controlled, leading to the amputation of her leg.
The plaintiff alleges that Pro Nails failed to properly assess her medical history, did not follow proper sanitation procedures, and used unclean tools during the pedicure.
Salon’s Response
On February 27, the attorney for Pro Nails responded to the lawsuit by denying all allegations. In the filed documents, Pro Nails argued that the plaintiff did not exercise the necessary degree of care when receiving the pedicure and that the woman’s actions contributed to any damage suffered. Pro Nails also stated that the woman’s actions were the sole proximate cause of the damages.
Legal Proceedings
The plaintiff’s lawsuit requests a trial by jury, but it remains unclear when the trial will take place. The case has brought attention to the sanitation standards in nail salons and whether the actions of the salon were directly responsible for the severe medical outcomes.
This legal dispute highlights the potential risks involved with salon services and raises questions about client safety and sanitation practices. As the case progresses, further details will likely emerge about the circumstances surrounding the alleged infection and amputation.
