A Texas man is behind bars after allegedly choking his 3-month-old son during a violent argument with the child’s mother, according to the Brownsville Police Department. Diego Alfredo Longoria, 23, faces multiple charges, including injury to a child, assault by strangulation, and making a terroristic threat.

The Domestic Dispute Turns Violent

The incident occurred last week at a residence on Tulane Avenue in north Brownsville, a city located near the U.S.-Mexico border. Authorities were initially called to the scene in response to a domestic dispute, but things quickly escalated when it became clear that the child was in immediate danger.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local media outlets, the grandmother of the child called 911 and reported that Longoria was hurting the baby.

Shortly after, she called again to inform authorities that the infant had a large bruise on his face and that Longoria was attempting to leave the home with the child.

Chilling Details of the Abuse

When officers arrived, they found Longoria and the mother separated from the child. Longoria reportedly told law enforcement that the argument with the child’s mother was over “stupid things.”

However, the grandmother confirmed her earlier statements, recounting a history of verbal altercations and detailing what she had witnessed.

The mother of the child revealed to police that the argument started when Longoria threatened to “intentionally scare” the baby while she was feeding him. When she objected, Longoria allegedly picked up the infant and began “thrusting him up and down in an aggressive manner,” causing the baby to cry.

The mother attempted to retrieve the child, but Longoria pushed her away, threatening to kill her if she didn’t comply with his commands. At this point, the situation escalated even further, and the baby’s crying turned into gasping sounds, prompting the mother to rush outside to find Longoria choking the child.

Desperate Struggle to Save the Infant

According to the complaint, when the mother tried to intervene, Longoria pushed her away and threatened to kill both her and the baby. As she called her own mother to report the situation, Longoria allegedly returned inside with the baby, placed him on the bed, and physically assaulted the mother.

The violence continued, with Longoria reportedly choking the mother for approximately 10 seconds. It wasn’t until the grandmother arrived at the scene and called 911 that law enforcement was notified, ultimately leading to Longoria’s arrest.

The Child’s Injuries and Medical Care

The child suffered significant injuries, including a fracture to his right collarbone, likely caused by the strangulation attempt. After the incident, the baby was taken to Driscoll Hospital in Corpus Christi for treatment and is currently recuperating.

Legal Actions and Detainment

Diego Alfredo Longoria has been arrested and is being held in the Brownsville city jail. The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office is currently handling the case and will determine the formal charges. Longoria faces serious criminal charges, and the investigation is ongoing.
